All members of Broken Bay Oysters Association are licensed with the NSW Food Authority. This licence is issued pursuant to the Food Regulation 2004 and authorises members to:

Cultivate and/or harvest shellfish with following condition(s):

  • Complies with the Operations Manual for the NSW Shellfish Program
  • Implement, maintain and comply with the Food Safety Program, certified by the NSW Food Authority which complies with:
  • (a) the principals and guidelines set out in the document entitled Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point ( HACCP ) system

Broken Bay Oysters Association spends a considerable amount of money on testing. This involves water, meat, algal and biotoxin tests. This data has enabled the NSW Food Authority and AQIS to classify all the Harvest Areas on the Hawkesbury River for Direct Harvest and Export Approved.

BBOA has also developed an Environmental Management System Revised March 05, 2011 (PDF 2.4Mb).

Through our cooperative approach with Councils, Catchment Management Authorities, National Parks and Maritime we are able to maintain exceptional water quality and good river stewardship. Examples of our work are:
