Oystermen’s Pty Ltd
Oystermen’s established in the early 1970’s is a family owned and operated oyster farm located approximately 40 kilometres north of Sydney on the New South Wales coast at Mooney Mooney, Hawkesbury River, the state’s largest estuary surrounded by rich bush land and natural attractions.
The area maintains a peaceful charm and tranquility rare so close to a major city and is cherished by all visitors to what is surely one of Sydney’s unsung gems. It is an area to relax and indulge the senses whilst pampering yourself with a dozen oysters or two.
The Hawkesbury River is arguably the best oyster farming estuary in Australia due to its rich nutrients and water quality resulting in our harvest leases been approved for direct harvest.
We are lucky to have 8 hectares of some of the most prime growing and harvesting leases available for farming Pacific Oysters.
Oystermen’s operates and adheres to NSW Safe Food guidelines, NSW Shellfish Quality Assurance Program and in addition adopted the BBOA tenets following in setting the benchmark for oyster growing in NSW.
Quality Product
We produce and market quality premium oysters over and above industry, food health, quality and marketing standards. We can harvest and have our oysters in the Sydney market within hours – How much fresher can you get?
Sustainable Management Practices
Oystermen’s operates under the best practice principles outlined by the NSW DPI’s ‘NSW Oyster Industry Sustainable Aquaculture Strategy’ which describes the principles of good river citizenship, oyster growing strategies, sustainability, environmental awareness and compliance actions constituting an overall best practice for oyster farming in NSW.
Stock Density Management
We manage our stock density resulting in long term sustainability and viability of all Hawkesbury River oyster growers and our river with systematic oyster stocking. We also manage the containment of feral or wild oysters and poorly maintained infrastructure.
Our Product
Our oysters are premium high quality reflecting the look and taste expected from our customers and Australia’s best oyster growing area. It has excellent presentation, condition and a mild flavoursome taste.
